Global leadership and innovation
The disposal of polyethylene films is a global problem. The positive environmental impact that Think Plastics is making by diverting millions of pounds from landfill and burn barrels has garnered international attention. The company has received inquiries from Europe, Australia and across the United States and Canada to establish similar collection, recycling and manufacturing facilities.
Lois Levitan of Cornell University states that Think Plastics in New Hamburg, Ontario, has “developed an integrated recycling system from the point of collecting ag plastics to the production of a high quality plastic lumber. Because they have developed technologies and equipment that lop off expensive intermediary steps in processing, the Think Plastics system holds great promise to be cost effective and replicable.”
“Think Plastics represents the type of forward thinking and innovation that Canada needs to succeed. Its success in both business and protecting the environment is laudable” said Kitchener-Conestoga M.P. Harold Albrecht, who represents the riding where the company is based.
